An exhibition occurs with the support of numerous individuals, and we are indebted to all who have contributed to the success of “Capital Portraits: Treasures from Washington Private Collections.” Foremost among these individuals are the lenders; without their extraordinary generosity this exhibition could not have happened. We thank them, and the many others whose suggestions, ideas, encouragement and planning have made this possible.

This exhibition and related programs have been generously supported by the late Robert L. McNeil Jr.  Additional support has been provided by The Mr. and Mrs. Raymond J. Horowitz Foundation for the Arts and Isobel Ellis.

Curators: Carolyn Kinder Carr, deputy director and chief curator, and Ellen G. Miles, curator emerita of painting and sculpture, with the assistance of Pie Friendly
