Produced by students at the St. Labre Indian School (Ashland, Montana); purchased for the Indian Arts and Crafts Board by Lloyd Kiva New (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, 1916-2002, director of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico) at the University of Texas Museum Shop (Austin, Texas) in 1971; part of the IACB Headquarters collection (Department of the Interior, Washington, DC) until 2000 when it was transferred to NMAI.
