When this whimsical photograph appeared on the cover of Time on May 19, 1997, the magazine was billing Hollywood director Steven Spielberg as “the most successful moviemaker ever.” This was high praise indeed. Yet moviegoers would have agreed who saw, and saw again, such blockbusters as Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), Jaws (1975), Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), E.T. (1982), Jurassic Park (1993), and Schindler’s List (1993). Spielberg was about to release a sequel to his popular dinosaur adventure, as portrayed on the cover. Subsequent films included a history-based drama of a nineteenth-century slave mutiny, Amistad, and a World War II picture, Saving Private Ryan. The latter film would win Spielberg his second Best Director Oscar in 1999.
(1982), Jurassic Park (1993) y Schindler’s List (1993).
