Boris Chaliapin almost never drew his own likeness. Yet in 1958, Time published a photograph of a rare self-portrait session captioned Three Faces of Chaliapin. Thirteen years later, the artist returned to the mirror, pencil in hand, and sketched this drawing the year after he retired as a cover artist for Time.
