This joyful gathering of well-wishers surrounds the Democratic candidate for president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, as he leaves the polling station on the arm of his son Elliott and with his wife, Eleanor, to his left. This photograph was taken in Roosevelt’s hometown of Hyde Park, New York, on Election Day, November 8, 1932. Roosevelt would go on to win this and a historic three more presidential elections.
