Washington Nationals’ Racing Presidents
The National Portrait Gallery will host its annual Presidential Family Fun Day for all ages. Visitors can participate in artmaking, including a printmaking and collage workshop with artist Donna Castellanos and a stovepipe hat-making workshop hosted by staff from President Lincoln’s Cottage. The event will also feature a story time, writing activities and an art demo and Q&A with author Sarah Albee and illustrator Stacy Innerst, who will discuss their book The Painter and the President: Gilbert Stuart’s Brush with George Washington. The Portrait Gallery will also welcome back the Washington Nationals’ Racing Presidents who will be available to take photos.
Visitors can tour the Portrait Gallery’s permanent exhibition “America’s Presidents,” which draws from the nation’s only complete collection of presidential portraits outside the White House. The museum’s collection of more than 1,700 portraits of U.S. presidents ranges from the full-length “Lansdowne” portrait of George Washington by Gilbert Stuart to a newly acquired photograph of President Joseph R. Biden Jr. by Doug Mills.
