Pop Quiz Trivia Event: Contemporary Americans

This month’s Pop Quiz trivia night focuses on the four galleries opening onto the National Portrait Gallery’s magnificent third-floor Great Hall—collectively known as the Contemporary Americans galleries—that showcase the people who defined culture, science, and politics in the twentieth century. Join us for this month’s Pop Quiz on October 8 at 6:30 p.m., where you can test your knowledge of these major players. Here’s a hint: come early, and spend some time brushing up in the galleries. Many of the questions on Wednesday’s quiz are inspired by the wall labels.

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks left work and boarded a bus toward home in Montgomery, Alabama. When told to give up her seat for a white man, she refused and was arrested for violating the city’s racial segregation laws. Her brave act of civil disobedience led to the thirteen-month-long Montgomery Bus Boycott, which was led by Martin Luther King Jr.

Pop Quiz trivia occurs once a month in the Robert and Arlene Kogod Courtyard and can played individually or in teams of up to six people. The team or individual with the high score at the end of the evening will take home a prize (and bragging rights)! The Courtyard Café will be open, and snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.
