Pop Quiz Trivia Event: Road Trip

Looking for a cool way to wind down after work on an August evening? Enjoy the scenery in the gorgeous (and air-conditioned) Robert and Arlene Kogod Courtyard at the National Portrait Gallery and play Pop Quiz, the Portrait Gallery’s trivia night! This month’s Pop Quiz takes place on August 13 at 6:30 p.m. The Courtyard Café will be open for participants to purchase drinks and snacks. Get your team together and trek on over! Pop Quiz is a collections-themed trivia game that can be played individually or in teams of up to six people. The team with the highest score will take home a prize at the end of the evening. This month’s theme is Road Trip. We will be zig-zagging around the nation, challenging you with questions about people and places all across the USA. Can you name all of the faces featured on Mount Rushmore? The real name of the highway referred to as “the Mother Road” in John Steinbeck’s novel The Grapes of Wrath? Or what year Disneyland opened its magical gates to the public?

Thomas Moran, a prominent painter of the Hudson River School, was one of the premiere painters of the American West. He began his career as an artist as the chief illustrator for Scribner’s Monthly, one of the first magazines to introduce color illustrations. With an exquisite eye for color and a desire for adventure, Moran left the magazine to produce some of the most iconic landscapes in American painting. His work during the Hayden Geological Survey in 1871 helped inspire Congress to establish the United States’s first national park.
