Show of Elaine de Kooning’s Portraiture allows viewers to #MeetEdK

On March 13, the National Portrait Gallery will open a special exhibition dedicated to the gestural portraiture of Elaine de Kooning. Elaine de Kooning: Portraits  is a retrospective of her portraits, showing de Kooning as the most important portrait artist of the Abstract Expressionists. The majority of her work resides within her estate and among family members and has rarely been seen by the public. The National Portrait Gallery holds the largest museum collection of her portraits with 13 drawings and paintings, all of which will be on display.

In honor of the opening, the Portrait Gallery is taking to social media to engage, educate, and excite our followers. The official hashtag of the show is “#MeetEdK,” and we encourage any uses of the tag when asking questions about or making comments on the show. Posts containing #MeetEdk on Instagram and Twitter will be appear on this Tumblr site: http://www.meetedk.tumblr.com. Be sure to check it out for behind-the-scenes looks, exclusive content, and perspectives from a wide variety of voices. The Portrait Gallery will also be hosting an “Ask the Curator” session on Twitter, where our followers can get answers to their inquiries on de Kooning’s life and work.  Date and time will be announced on our social media pages soon.
